ABOUT THE PROJECT
Prostate cancer gives no warning. There's no pain to notice, no symptom to catch early; by the time there is one, the disease has often already changed its shape. For Black men in the UK, that silence carries extra weight: a documented twofold risk of developing the disease, and twice the likelihood of dying from it.
What Black Men Don't Say follows the men living this reality through diagnosis, through treatment, through the parts of recovery nobody prepares you for alongside the doctors treating them, the researchers who first proved the risk, and the community figures working, in barbershops and churches and garages, to close the gap between what's known and what's said out loud.
This isn't a film about dying of prostate cancer. It's a film about what breaks the silence around it and an invitation to have the conversation before you have to.
One in four Black men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Early detection is still the single biggest factor in surviving it.
If this film reaches even one person before their diagnosis does, it will have done its job.
